In a phone interview around 12:45 a.m. Saturday, Ryan Richard, chief of the Brooklyn Volunteer Fire Department, said the fire started in the 400 block of Interstate 1.

The fire was big about a morning when the call first came, Richard said, although he said it was growing and moving toward homes in the area.

Evacuations in the area “could be a possibility,” he said.

“If the wind changes, we have to evacuate, yes,” he said.

Uniacke, Windsor, Rawdon, Gore, Hantsport and HRM fire services also responded.

Richard also said RCMP and Department of Natural Resources helicopters are also helping.

Motorists are being asked to avoid Highway 1 near Pentz Lake Drive due to the developing fire. “Traffic will be impacted for several hours,” RCMP said in a tweet.

More to come.
