Jamie Carragher has slammed Arsenal striker Gabriel Martinelli on Sky Sports Football (8:05pm, 5 August 2022) for missing his early chance against Crystal Palace.
Arsenal play London rivals Crystal Palace in the Premier League tonight.
It is the first league game of the season and is currently being played at Selhurst Park.
Martinelli started the game for Arsenal and the 21-year-old Brazil international scored in the 20th minute.
However, the youngster could have put the Gunners ahead early in the game.
After just five minutes, Gabriel Jesus got past the Palace defense and took a shot that was blocked.
The ball fell to Jesus’ fellow Brazilian Martinelli, who was in a great position to score.
However, the Brazilian shot wide of the post.
Former Liverpool defender Carragher is a co-commentator on the game on Sky Sports and was disappointed with Martinelli’s efforts.
Jamie Carragher on Gabriel Martinelli missed for Arsenal vs Crystal Palace
Carragher said on Sky Sports Football (8:05 p.m. 5 August 2022): “That’s bad, it’s really from Martinelli. When the ball comes to him, expect him to see the net. What an opportunity!”
Although it was a disappointing miss we have to thank Gabriel Martinelli for intensifying his game and finally scoring in the first half for Arsenal.
Despite his initial miss, Martinelli continued to play his natural game and his goal for Arsenal was well deserved.
The Brazilian is only 21 and will learn from his mistakes and failures.
