There are a variety of items players can pick up in Fortnite, all with different levels of use. However, you can’t wear everything; You have a limited number of places. At some point, items will need to be dropped to make room for more important items like building materials or ammo. If you still got the hang of it, here is how to drop items in fortnite for pc.

First you need to ask yourself a simple question: do you use a keyboard and mouse or a controller in Fortnite? If the latter, what kind of controller – Xbox or PlayStation? We’ve created steps for both, so follow the steps that apply to you.

Dropping items with keyboard and mouse

There are two unique methods of dropping items in Fortnite for PC. You can either rely on standard hotkeys or use the mouse.

1. Open your inventory, which is the I key by default.
2. Left-click an item you want to remove.
3. Drag it over and out of your inventory and release.

In the worst situations that happen in Fortnite all the time, this is by far the most efficient and fastest way to drop items. This is especially true when you consider that the weapons you pick up at the start will likely be replaced at some point, so there’s no reason to hold onto them. It will also free up more space for ammo and building materials, or just ammo if you’re in a Zero Build match.

Alternatively, you can drop items from your inventory by holding the X button. When selecting an item such as building materials, tapping the X button will drop 30 of those items instead of the entire stack. This is only really useful for sharing your loot with allies.

Dropping items with a controller

If you’re using a controller – Xbox or PS4/PS5 – item dropping will change in Fortnite on PC. The button prompt is the same as on the respective consoles.

1. Open your inventory with the D-Pad Up button.
2. Find the item you want to file and highlight it.
3. To drop items, press either the Square button (PS4/PS5) or the X button (Xbox).
